Education During the Ancient Time

• Use pointed sticks to inscript signs and symbols on the leaves of trees and knives for the bark of trees.
• Egyptians devised a system of picture writing called hieroglyphics.
• Spartan education emphasized the development of the physical body coupled with discipline. 

Education During the Medieval Era

• Establishment of Medieval University
• Created the spark in writing textbooks
• Their universities and libraries were the models in the entire Europe because they invented the printing press.
• They also originated the scientific method of teaching.

Education During the Renaissance Period

Three lines of concern:

• Intellectual development ( humanism, reformation, realism,      disciplinism and rationalism )
• Aesthetic ( entertainment )
• Scientific ( John Locke: Tabularasa, Johann Amos Comenius: Orbis Pictus, Maria Montessori: use of multi-sensory materials to teaching, Montessori schools today.)

Education During the Age of Naturalist

• Jean Jacques Rousseau: Emile Book, preservation of natural goodness of the individual.
• Herbart: Herbartian Method of teaching (preparation, presentation, comparison, abstraction, generalization and application)
• Peztallozi: teaching is more effective if it proceeds from concrete to abstract.
• Froebel: Father of Kindergarten, emphasized the use of actual objects, recommended the use of play and songs and discovery of games suited for grades.

Educational Movements in the 19th century

• Production of books
• Use of blackboards
• Improvement of writing implements like pen and ink
• Photography ( visual instruction )
• Audio-visual media texts

Second World War

• Movies
• Filmstrips
• Radio
• Other pictorial devices

Education in Contemporary Times
Most schools have already adopted:

• Computerization of records
• Entrance procedures and all other aspects of administration and supervision.

Educational Technology is:

• the development, application and evaluation of systems, techniques and aids to improve the process of human learning,
• a systematic way of designing, implementing and evaluating the total learning and teaching in terms of specific objectives based on research in human learning and communication; and employing a combination of human and non-human resources to bring about more effective instruction,
• the application of the results of researches and studies, material or non-material to improve teaching and learning.
